Invasive Species Removal
Removing well-established invasive plants like Porcelain Berry, Japanese Knotweed and Poison Ivy — without the use of toxic herbicides — takes hard work and patience.
This yard in Westchester had become totally overrun with vines after years of neglect. Porcelain Berry can set down roots that grow to an inch thick and 20-30 feet long, making weeding feel like a game of Tug of War — literally.
Removing invasive species takes time and patience. In this case, it took three rounds of hand weeding: one to remove the vines & roots, a second to remove the grass that sprang up from latent seeds once the vines were gone, and a third to remove whatever opportunists survived.
In spring 2023 we will install a pollinator perennial garden, a small lawn and herb & vegetable beds.
