Monarch Habitat Garden

In May 2024, Rosewater Garden Design partnered with Mayor Martin Rutyna, the Sleepy Hollow Environmental Advisory Committee, and the Village of Sleepy Hollow to create a Monarch Habitat Garden on Beekman Avenue in support of the town’s commitment to the National Wildlife Federation’s Mayors’ Monarch Pledge.

We selected plants that Monarchs rely on to survive and a host of other nectar-rich plants, including:

Monarch Butterfly Host Plants

  • Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata)

  • Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa)

Nectar Plants:

  • Sweetspire (Itea virginica "Little Henry")

  • Sweet Pepperbush (Clethra alnifolia)

  • Bradbury’s Bee Balm (Monarda bradburiana)

  • Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa)

  • Aromatic Aster “October Skies” (Symphyotrichum oblongiolium)

  • Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

  • Anise Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum)

  • Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea)

  • Bronze Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare)

  • Black Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta)

  • Threadleaf Coreopsis (Coreopsis verticillata)

  • Hairy Beardtongue (Penstemon digitalis)

  • Dense Blazing Star (Liatris spicata)
